The Merseyside club Vows Not to Alter Forward-Thinking Philosophy Amid Recent Slump, Says Slot
Arne Slot has revealed that the Anfield decision-makers share his views regarding the recent downturn and he refuses to compromise their attacking style in pursuit of a turnaround. The head coach conceded that six defeats in seven matches was not good enough ahead of the weekend fixture with Villa.
Growing Expectations During Tough Spell
The manager acknowledged the pressure was on before his rotated squad were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he emphasized that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the team's proprietors or executive leadership following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.
"Our views align," commented Slot, whose side will meet Real Madrid in the continental tournament and travel to Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League.
Team Strength Remains Undoubted
The coach is convinced his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are all fit and all ready for the fixture list". He said that the recent signings in players such as Florian Wirtz and the Swedish striker, who is probably unavailable again against the Birmingham club through injury, had left the club "in an excellent position for the short-term future and the years to come".
Integration Challenges
When asked why his team were having difficulty blending, he replied: "That's not particularly helpful. 'Why, why, why?' I give an explanation and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify multiple factors why we are underperforming or experiencing losses as we do but, as I consistently state, there are never enough excuses to have a run of form as we had now."
- No matter if I could come up with numerous reasons
- As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
- The reality is six out of seven
Defensive Numbers
Only Burnley (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than the Merseysiders (19). The league leaders, the Gunners, have faced two. Yet the manager disputes the team has been overly exposed and claims there is no justification to abandon offensive philosophy for a defensive approach after ten matches without a goalless performance.
"From my perspective we don't giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to modify our philosophy completely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he declared.
Specific Instances
"Against Manchester United, how many openings did we give up? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we hardly conceded a shot on target. In each fixture we have competed in we haven't conceded a lot of chances. Definitely not. We do allow a somewhat more than the previous campaign but that is related to us being trailing by a goal so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't think that our challenge is that we allow too many opportunities. Our challenge is we don't score the openings we produce."
