The former Liverpool manager says coming back to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought continental glory and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach another team within the country. Which implies in case it's my former club...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, so the choice could be mine in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on what circumstances would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in every contest following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, and the effect for the team. Jota lost his life in a road accident with his brother in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this emotionally is difficult. Overwhelming.”
