Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak From Tom Brady Years with Win Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores this season
New England equaled their best victory streak since the Tom Brady period as they beat division rivals the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the New England squad secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since iconic QB Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in 2019
Signal-caller Maye accumulated 281 yards and a score, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph extends the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had taken the lead at Foxborough with QB Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to cap the Jets' opening drive
But the home team fought back in the second quarter as the rookie ran in two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Maye at the rear of the endzone in the middle of the third period to push the score to 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback said of Henderson. "He aims to be outstanding."
Justin Fields found John Metchie late in the third period to close the gap for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side wrapped up the triumph
