Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a major air traffic control outage halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were halted because of an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

Officials had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the operational halt to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers should still plan to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as knock-on effects are managed.
