NFL Recap: Broncos Edge Struggling Jets in Defensive Battle
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning go-ahead field goal to seal the ugly win.
Dominant Performance Wins Game
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following giving up a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 offensive yards during the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's 27-yard kick with just over five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Offense
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to drive for a possible winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," the coach stated after the game.
