Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
