Hazlewood received clearance to become part of the Australian team for the initial Test against England post-injury worries, but fellow pace bowler Abbott will miss the match

The two experienced hamstring issues during their match for NSW versus Victoria in domestic cricket this past Wednesday

Tests indicated Hazlewood, 34 avoided muscle damage. The uncapped Abbott, 33, suffered a "moderate grade" injury

Skipper Pat Cummins is out of the initial match, commencing later this month, so the loss of a key pace option such as Hazlewood would have been a serious concern

The bowler stood unlikely to play during the Western Australia Test, while Hazlewood will combine fellow quicks Starc and Boland forming the fast bowling unit

Cummins, currently healing from back issues, is thought to be likely to comeback for the second Test commencing December fourth

Batter Steve Smith takes over leadership in Cummins' absence

Like many of Australian cricketers, Hazlewood is involved in the current round of state games building up to the Ashes

Until this match, he hadn't featured red-ball cricket with his state team for over twelve months

He felt tightness in his hamstring near the conclusion of the match on Wednesday and left the field for safety reasons

Both players came out to bat during New South Wales' second innings in a losing cause by three hundred runs

"There's seven days from the Test series - we consistently choose being cautious," commented Cummins

"They needed to determine the nature of the problem prior to testing it that could worsen the condition"

"Uncommon to see him chipper, making it encouraging observing his positive demeanor"

"He's aware of his condition thoroughly. I think he was somewhat concerned (seeking to obtain medical assessment"

The bowler collected 57 international selections representing Australia in ODI and T20 cricket

Without Test experience the pace bowler provides bowling backup among the selections, offering support to the main pace trio
