Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered numerous engaging creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer includes a hero that is truly a turd attempting to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: just use a jump control. Across one hundred fifty stages, battle boss fights and access a store to purchase outfits for your dung hero.

Plan your movements carefully, as a wrong move forces starting over. Leap using air pockets to hurl your character upward, cross disappearing surfaces, and activate triggers to open secret routes. Collect coins for buying challenging game content where things gets crazy.

Graphically, the game boasts neon environments and a killer background music. Its minimalist graphics of shifting basic polygons evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although tough to think of previous releases where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment have long incorporated toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make grenades from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on Steam in the fall.
