The celebrated English actor Mirren, currently winner of an Oscar, multiple Bafta awards, Globes trophies, five Emmys, and a Tony, will soon add another major award to her trophy case: the DeMille Golden Globe lifetime achievement award.

Honors Presentation

The actress, octogenarian, formerly given a damehood back in 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will receive the accolade during a presentation January 8, just prior to the main Golden Globes take place, during an event billed by the organization as the Golden Eve event.

Additionally featuring the presentation of the Globes’ Carol Burnett prize for television achievement, whose winner has yet to be announced. Previous recipients featured Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as an unstoppable talent, and her career is truly remarkable,” stated the organization’s president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her brilliant portrayals and devotion to her art persistently influence countless performers and fans too. It’s a tremendous privilege to bestow upon her the Cecil B DeMille award.”

Professional Journey

The star gained prominence back in the 70s with key roles in stage productions in the West End of London and with the RSC and in cinematic works such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

During the nineties, her lead performance in the investigative show Prime Suspect expanded her audience further. Additional notable movies feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her role as Elizabeth II in 2006 film The Queen, a role she revisited during 2013 in The Audience, the stage production by Peter Morgan regarding the encounters with the Queen and the PM Margaret Thatcher, and for which she received a Tony Award during 2015.

Recent and Upcoming Projects

• Subsequent cinematic works include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, which she narrated.
• Her performance in the Netflix version of The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and honors speculation is growing regarding her role as a terminally ill matriarch in Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, Mirren will be seen in the role of Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.

Globes nominations will be announced December 8, with the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Zhao’s Hamnet and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners anticipated to be prominent.
