One extended cruise circling the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the death of an elderly lady who was left behind by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a break. The vessel departed without her and went back later that day after the ship staff discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her body the next day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the shipping company announced that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous engine troubles".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an latest statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" preventing any further travelers from entering the liner.

The official said that they would attend the ship in the port city upon its arrival.
